On January, Aristotel Căncescu, the County Council?s president, offered the people of Braşov a DVD collecting the history of the Braşov of yester-years. The event, hosted at Casa Baiulescu?s attic, was attended by a large public ? officialdom and literati. The documentary about the Braşov of yester-years is the first motion picture material in the interwar Braşov.
Căncescu, the DVD?s producer and effecter, gathered references, film and photos of the period in a 30 minutes film. Radu Ştefănescu, director of the Department Museum of History, made the presentation.
Ancestors and DVD
In order to accomplish this project, Căncescu started a few years ago a huge documentation work and made track for old films. He is a photographic art keen and a great lover of old photographs; he already gathered the old history of Braşov in an exhibit and an album considered a piece of art. ?I found nothing in the Braşov?s archives. I?ve ransacked the Films National Archive with the same result. I?ve traced some films in the archives of Budapest and Vienna and, according to the promises, we will get other motion pictures. We hope therefore to enrich the DVD with other pictures taken in our ancestors? Braşov. The DVD will be realized in three languages of international circulation.
The German Strongholds
Aristotel Căncescu has other projects as well; he wants to print in Romanian a valuable book about Braşov, written by the town?s ex-chef architect, Gunther Schuller. By the end of 2006 he intends to finish another documentary about the German strongholds, waiting to be launched on the event ,,Sibiu ? Cultural European Capital?.
?It is an old dream of mine. Ten years ago I decided to make a film along with a historians and amateur film makers team. I?m the only one left from that team. Finally, I made the film with a younger one? the president of the County Council stated.
