The ?First Snow Drop? event in Codlea

Codlea (known as Zeöedăn, Zuidn, Tsâdn in the Transylvanian Saxon dialect, Zeiden, Schwarzberg, Schwarzhügel in German, and Feketehalom, Feketehegy in Hungarian) is a town located in Brasov County, Romania, where multiple cultural events take place. Among these there are three symbolic events that are organised at the beginning of spring: the ?First Snow Drop?, the ?Martisor? Ball and the ?Spring? Ball.

The ?Martisor? Ball

The ?Martisor? Ball is at its eighth edition and it takes place around March 8th on Women?s Day. This is the reason for which the event is intended to be a moment of joy for women. Flowers are offered to mothers and many other surprises for mothers, wives and girlfriends.
?The event is organized in the wedding hall where everyone brings a basket with good food. The locals participate, irrespective of their nationality, enjoying an artistic show that includes the performance of Accent-Luci Blidar music band and the show offered by the children attending the courses of the Cultural Centre (break-dance). The ?Martisor? Ball is a very successful event because the people have understood that they can have fun as if they were at a wedding but instead of giving gifts they receive a lot of surprises,? said Mr. Petrica Buhnici, Manager of the Cultural Centre of Codlea.

The Spring Festival

The Spring Festival takes place in the historic town centre, in the place called the Promenade. The Festival is at its seventh edition and it aims at stimulating young talents from Codlea. The participants to this event are very content to have the opportunity to have fun in such a nice location as the Promenade. The investment is supported by the Town Hall of Codlea.
?The Promenade is part of the historic town centre, a place in which a lot of money has been invested for renovation, thus giving back to the locals a historic area full of memories and happy moments for those who once lived here. Couples used to walk here in the evenings, in a very picturesque environment. The investment included street lamps, benches and public lightening. Thus, the Fortress and the famous former Promenade were stressed,? said Mr. Alexandru Popa, Mayor of Codlea town.

The First Snow Drop event

The First Snow Drop event is part of the Spring Festival when a special day is chosen to be dedicated to this flower. Since the snow drop is the first flower of spring, it is worth being attributed a special day which has double symbol: the flower announcing the arrival of spring and the talented children symbolising the first ?flowers? of Codlea.
To mark this event shows are being organised in which school and pre-school children participate. This year the children from the bordering towns were invited too. The festival is a great success.
