The bookshop Okian in Brasov hosted, at the beginning of September, the opening of Ovidiu Marian? exhibition - icons painted on wood. The event was organized on the occasion of the two great orthodox celebration of this period ? The Birth of Virgin Mary on September 8 in and the Hoist of the Holy Cross on Sept. 14.
Guide to a Spiritual World
Ovidiu Marian paints wooden icons in the traditional manner, respecting the canons of this ancient art of Byzantine inspiration. He learned the secrets of this fine art from Alexandrina Ghetie and Mihai Alexandru. He had exhibitions in the country and abroad and its icons can be found in many collections throughout the world. ?The icon is the first artistic work that decorated the house of the Romanian peasant and had an important role in forming his artistic taste. Icons guide you into a world of spiritual meditation and prayer? ? this is Ovidiu?s artistic belief.
Prayer-Icons
The writer and art critic Gabriel Stan said very few icons painters are related to holiness, prayer and the unseen world. ?Ovidiu created real prayer-icons, namely those miraculous icons opening a window towards the artist?s soul. One can communicate with the entity artistically represented in the icon. The painter enters into an old space and creates Byzantine icons, on a surface suggesting old and new at the same time. The approach dates back to the 12th century, reminding the icons irradiating light on the walls of the old Romanian cottages?.
Among the icons displayed at the opening distinguished itself the Saint George?s icon and the Zodiac, inspired by a very old cult, activating a deep knowledge.
Painter?s Goodness
According to Stefan Aranyosi, president of the Culture commission of Brasov County Council, Ovidiu Marian brings the icon in present days. ?Only one with the soul and the goodness of Ovidiu Marian can create such icons on wood? thinks Aranyosi.
