June 1st, 2008 was the date of the local elections in Romania. For the first time, the County Councils presidency has been adjudged by uninominal vote, after a single ballot. The county president Aristotel Cancescu has been re-elected for the third consecutive time.
Doubles Revenues
The coherent plan for transforming Braşov in the first touring county of Romania will double the tourism revenues collected at the county budget. In order to achieve this goal, president Cancescu wants to restore all the monuments in the county, including the 42 fortified churches and the fortresses of Fagaras and Rupea. Tourists will enjoy modern facilities: info-kiosks integrated information system near the major objectives and touring points and a modern signalling system of the pedestrian routes of touring interest: historical centres, pedestrian alleys, parks, museums, mountain paths".
Touring Network
Within the mandate 2008-2012, a network of Touring Information Centres will be established and extended to the entire county. The county?s strategy also includes the promotion at international standards of the image of Brasov county through the Association for Tourism Promotion and Development of the county (APDT), founded by the County Council.
As the surveys revealed, two million tourists will visit annually Brasov county. The airport to be achieved by the end of 2010 will have a strong contribution to the fulfilment of this desire.
Aurochs Reserve
Another point of the strategy to attract as much tourists as possible in Brasov is the establishment of an aurochs reservation in Vama Buzaului. ?The reserve, called "The Aurochs Valley" will be populated with four couples of buffaloes, but their number will be progressively increased. It will cover an area of 80 hectares. In Prejmer, Budila, Teliu, Vama Buzaului, localities that have received the title of the destination of excellence, there will also be promoted projects of tourism development".
New Ski Slopes
For the skiable field of Brasov County, generally the mountain resorts, there are projects to modernise the slopes. In Poiana Brasov, new and modern slopes will be endowed with cable transport facilities able to cope with the constantly increasing influx of tourists. The skiable field will also be extended in Rasnov area and new ski slopes will be open in the Fagaras Mountains.
The Drapers? Bastion
In the 2008-2012 mandate, will be completed the repairs to the Drapers? Bastion, which will be rehabilitated on the White Tower?s model, with steel structure and glass roof, Rasnov Fortress will get new utilities: the restoration and pavement with square building stone of the way to the Castle, extension of the lightning, electric, water supply and sewerage networks.
The steam train route will be expanded by building a railway line on narrow gauge, connecting Rasnov and Bran.
Tennis and Skating Rink
The "Recreation" Complex under Tampa Hill will have swimming pool, health centre, bowling, bar and sports ground to be transformed the winter into artificial skating rink.
The sporting base "Olimpia" will be both tennis court and skating rink of Olympic size, the first in the history of Brasov. The historical base will fully conserve its 19th century?s aspect.
