Sanpetru Commune is located on the depression area of Tara Barsei, on DJ 103, 4 km distant from Brasov. The commune, whom origins go back to 1240, lays on the foot of Lempes Hill, famous for the natural reserve hosting two protected plants: the Spring pheasants? eye and the spotted tulip.
Inhabitants? Comity
According to mayor Ion Rusu, the 4.000 inhabitants ? Romanians, Germans and Magyars ? have conserves till today the traditional feasts and the architectural patrimony ? the orthodox church and the evangelical one. ?The two churches are not just architectural monuments, but the proof of the inhabitants? comity, no mother theirs faith and ethnic origin. They want to revitalize the specific local values, while local authorities are preoccupied to modernize infrastructure, develop the area and promote cultural traditions? the mayor stated.
Sanpetru?s Feast
On St. Peter and Paul?s Day, Sanpetru commune feasts its day. This year, the event took place on the aerodrome ?Iosif Silian?. The program included entertainment moments for young and children, cultural and folkloric shows with Romanian and German dance bands and famous vocalists. The well-known Brasov?s Junii mounted and sang on the commune?s streets. The evening ended with impressive fireworks.
Demonstrative Flights
Under the guidance of commander Ioan Vancea of ?Iosif Silian??s Flying Club, pilots made a amazing demonstration: aero-models and plaeasure flights, flights on formation of ultralight plains and gliders, helicopters flights, sky diving. The spectators also had the opportunity to fly and admire from height the Sanpetru?s panorama.
All Ages Shows
But the program involved everybody in passionate contests: bodybuilding demonstrations of national and European champs, power contests, sacked foot-races, minifootball, mini ATV, beer drinking contests and inflatable toboggan. The winners were given diplomas and attractive prizes.
