County Council Brasov , the County?s Centre for Conservation and Promotion of the Traditional Culture Brasov, along with the Town Hall Apata organized the Song and Dance Festival of the Magyar Community living in the Carpathian Curve. This second edition, attended among others by relevant leaders of UDMR, was meant to promote the traditional culture of the Magyar ethnics of Brasov county.
The Birds? Day
14 Magyar folkloric bands of Ormenis, Purcareni, Zizin, Tarlungeni, Teliu, Sacele, Apata, the band Bokreta of ?Aprily Lajos? Highschool, and ?Albastrita? from Brasov performed on Apata?s stage in a wonderful display of the Magyar tradition.
The pupils of Ormenis?s School, under the guide of the principal Agoston Margareta, presented an ancient costume of poor children. On 12 March, called ?The Birds? Day?, children celebrate St. Gregory, the schools? and pupils? patron. ?The custom?s goal is to collect money and eggs from the reaches to give them to the poor. Children scour the entire village in groups. They spend the money collected to buy requisite and everybody is invited to taste the delicious scrambled eggs they cook at the end. The money collected this year will finance a trip? Margareta stated.
Dance Initiation
Four choreographers worked to train the bands; once the festival ended, all the children were invited on stage to be initiated in the authentic Magyar dance. The several traditional costumes worn on stage were specific to the various Magyar communities of Transylvania . The boys worn popular hoses, embossed with Magyar motives while the girls worn black and red boots.
