Comana commune is part of Tara Fagarasului area, located on both sides of river Olt, midway between two national roads connecting Brasov to Sighisoara.
The residential locality is the village Lower Comana which, along with Upper Comana, Crihalma and New Ticusu villages compose the commune.
The mountains bordering it spread towards East and are part of Persani mountains, which
highs reach 1000 m. The climate is influenced by the mountains, obstructing the fast movement of the air.
Natural Monuments
The area's toponymy contains a lot of names reminding the woods: Groves, Little Beachwood, Glades and Coppices. The area is full of natural monuments such as The Sphinx or the Stone man, The Stone Gates, the caves with funny names: ?The Stronghold' Top? (where they say a fortress used to be once), Monasteries, Frying-pan, Polenta (hiding peculiar stalactites and stalagmites).
The local woods are populated by a large number of animals - deer, wolf, lynx, fox, boar or bear - forming a real natural reserve.
According to the mayor Alexandru Fekete, there are an increasing number of foreign tourists willing to enjoy the beauties of the surrounding or exploit the natural resources.
The Folklore as Ambassador
Lower Comana is an old Romanian settlement of a certain importance during its existence as the administrative centre of the western part of Fagaras Estate.
The two churches (historic monuments today) and the venue testify its rank among the others localities. The popular cloths, the folkloric dances and the customs are still alive in the people' existence, like persuasive ambassadors of the inhabitants abroad.
The village's museum exhibits popular artefacts; the statue of a soldiers stands in the middle of the settlement, erected in the memory of the casualties of the two world wars.
Ruins of long ago
Within the proximate few kilometres there are the vestiges of a dacian settlement and the ruins of Comana citadel, erected by the end of the 13th century, after a Mongolian invasion.
The marvelous landscape, from Olt valley till the timbered hills of Persani offers a environment propitious to week-end relax, a real delight for the eye, providing a multiple choice of leisure: hikes, rides on bikes, fishing, boating, visits at the caves on Comana valley and the geologic reserve ?The carved Rock? in Upper Comana, reachable by car on DN1 road from Sercaia, 12 km towards Hoghiz, and DN 13 from Hoghiz, 11 km towards Sercaia.
