Ghimbav: the three roses heart
|
|
The symbol of the place ? ?The three roses heart?? represents faith, love and hope. The faith of the inhabitants, regardless if they were Saxons or Romanians, was kept here for centuries. The Evangelical Church (Lutheran ? 15th century) and the Romanian Church (1780) stand as proofs of faith, both of them being declared historical monuments. Tourists can admire the entire view of the Ghimbav town, including the peaks of Bucegi, Piatra Craiului, Postavarul and Persani Mountains, by going to ?Mircea Zorileanu? Air club of Ghimbav.
The Evangelical Church
Here, seasons pass by the walls of the strong Citadel of Ghimbav, and the pipe organ of the Evangelical Church can still be heard. The strong citadel was built around the Evangelical Church and the entire architectural assembly, gothic style, is a historical monument. The strong rural citadel was built by Transylvanian Saxons in the 15th century. In the interior yard of the Citadel, the Town Hall and the Local Council of Ghimbav host the Medieval Historic Festival, so that tourists may attend a program with horses and knights and ladies, like on the Teutonic knights? ages, for three days.
The pipe organ of unusual aspect
?The pipe organ of the Evangelical Church is the most beautiful item. It was built in 1786, by the famous master J. Prause, from Brasov. Initially, it did not have stops, but they were added after 100 years. It is very interesting, since it has an unusual aspect, due to affixing the big flutes for stops, to the left and to the right of the instrument. Tourists who come to our town have plenty to see. Those attending the events may see a various program: authentic folklore, aviation show, medieval festivals and valuable historic objectives?, told us Mr Toma Dorel, Mayor of Ghimbav town.
Romanian Church
An important touristic objective is the ?Sf. Treime? Romanian Church, a historic monument, with mural paintings. Tourists may also visit the ?Sf. Petru și Pavel? Orthodox Church, recently built, with spires completely polished in gold, unique in Romania. It is considered a true jewellery of the town. Travellers through Tara Barsei region may stop in this Transylvanian Saxon location, old for over seven centuries, and they may find out things individualizing it, ever since the first iron civilization.
