In Ghimbav City, County of Brasov, the Town Hall and the Local Council organized the 3rd edition of the Historical Festival Ghimbav ? 2014, aiming at bringing in the pipeline the life of the community that used to live during the medieval period in the Fortified Church "Sf. Petru" belonging to the Transylvanian Saxons, surrounded by massive walls, built to defend the inhabitants if attacked. The foundation of the walls dates back in the 15th century and they can be seen today, as well. Medieval events can be organized in the patio: presentations of weapons and armours, competitions for designation of the strongest inhabitant of the citadel, campaign small-scale manufacturing operations, exhibitions and demonstrations with weapons and military equipment specific to that period of time.
The Parade of carriages and horses
Tourists had the possibility to participate for three days in an important event which started with a parade with carriages and horses. The climax was the "Siege of the fortified church". The knights competed in fighting, handling weapons and conquering the citadel. Tourists have been delighted about the programme and about the fact that they were given the possibility to participate in interactive fights with medieval weapons. The spectators wished to get in and visit the interior of the Evangelical Church and of the Fortified Church.
Medieval dances and plays with "Our Theatre", folk music and one fire show were organized on the occasion of this event.
Thematic competitions and medieval dances
The organizers have done a series of activities for children: the little historian (historical and chronical subjects); about the bow (presentation of types of bows, techniques and demonstrations); as swift as an arrow (competition); fights with gladiators and puppet play "Adventures in grandfather?s loft".
Interactive programs with children on historical subjects, thematic competitions and medieval dances have been organized as well. Amaro Group has presented a fire show.
All along the event, medieval dances, Transylvanian Saxon dances and a show with group "Doruletul" Ghimbav took place.
Exploitation of the patrimony
"Before Saint Merry, celebrated on August 15th, we are organizing the Historical thematic Festival. This year we have a medieval program, such as for three days tourists may participate in a program with horses and knights and princesses in the Citadel. We enjoy a priceless inheritance we want to exploit, next to other cultural-historical projects interesting for the use of the community." declared Toma Dorel, the Mayor of Ghimbav City.
