The First Take-off on Airport Brasov-Ghimbav

Ever since May, the first small-size aircraft has taken off on the airfield of Brasov-Ghimbav Airport in the presence of Mr. Aristotel Cancescu, Chairman of the County Council Brasov, Mr. Toma Dorel, Mayor of Ghimbav Town, the constructor and the media. The airfield is to be entirely completed in September 2014; this is the reason for which several foreign investors and international airline companies showed their interest in the conclusion of contracts.
The event was moving, all the more so because this investment is being developed the very same place where the first pioneers of the Romanian airplane construction industry did their work.
70% Completion of the Project in 2014
Mr. Aristotel Cancescu, Chairman of the County Council Brasov, said: "The airfield will be completed in September when we start the bidding process for the moving walkways. The light marking project will be carried out in 2014 and the execution will start in 2015. We intend to hire meteorologists to direct airplanes in any weather conditions. This is a very tempting investment. People are interested in this project at local, national, as well as international level. The County Council Brasov was contacted by representatives of the Romanian Government to be informed that a Turkish company wanted to get involved in this investment project. At the same time, meetings with two Chinese companies will take place, at the end of which they will decide whether they want to be a part of this project or not."
Air Cargo Transportation Starts in 2014
The works for the cargo transportation services are estimated to be completed in 2015, so that cargo airlines may transport freight by air. The contractor said that the airfield concreting works were according to the plan and that the completion deadline would be respected.
Mr. Mihai Pascu, Vice-President of the County Council Brasov, pointed out that the procedures with respect to landing have started and that a study with regard to this matter was being carried out in collaboration with ROMATSA.
Ghimbav Town on the Air Traffic Map
Mr. Toma Dorel, Mayor of Ghimbav, said: "This great investment will put Ghimbav on the air routes map, which will make this town known all over the world. We have done everything possible so that the construction of this airport could be done and we have had high-level discussions in this regard. Major airlines have already started to show interest in landing on this airport. For the moment, the first small-size aircraft took off and landed in good conditions. We are keen to see the Airport Brasov-Ghimbav completely operable in 2016."
