"Centrul de excelenţă în dezvoltare personală Solomon" - Solomon Centre of Excellence in Personal Development - Association of Brasov, in partnership with "Reduta" Cultural Centre Brasov organized a show dedicated to the teacher and ethnologist Ioan Sorin Apan, the cultural personality of Brasov who dedicated his entire life to Romanian traditions and customs. The event aimed at highlighting that cultural heritage shall move on through the new generations who remained faithful to him after his passing away.
The Four Aces
The merits of Ioan Sorin Apan have the place of honour in the great cultural puzzle of which we would like to remind: he led a dance ensemble that performed in the Kings Hall of Frankfurt am Main in the past 100 years; he was present on the cultural page of the Romanian Consulate of Boston; he was nominated as part of the Four Aces of the Romanian ethnography; he created semiotic cultural analysis; thanks to him there are crosses with painted icons in more than 20 of the mountain peaks of more than 1,800 m altitude; he established "Sf. Andrei" Minivillage of "Andrei Şaguna" National College of Braşov; he painted more than 20 laboratories of Prejmer High School ? Braşov with themed paintings from history, physics, veterinary medicine, culture and quotations from the Gospels in Greek and Latin.
Restoring Tradition
Alexandru Gecse, the artist who lived, learned and played the saxophone together with the ethnologist said: "It is moving and touching to talk about Sorin Apan the person, a complex man, a messenger of God on earth. He was genuine, deep in everything that he did and he always had faith. He created and put his soul in several workshops to teach the young generation: wood carving, paitning of icons on glass and on wood, painting Easter eggs, clay works and pottery, loom weaving, folklore and he restored forgotten Romanian folklore ceremonials reviving them with all cultural parameters: religion, history of religion, history of culture and civilization, sociology, history etc."
Cultural Will
One year after his passing away, we can say that the cultural inheritance that he left behind is priceless. Of his cultural will it is worth mentioning that: he served God, he painted churches and classrooms, he played the flute and the accordion touring Europe, he taught religion the same time with physics, he was the principal of a theological seminary and he established the Minivillage which was designed to root teenagers in the world of the Romanian peasant, to know and practice traditions. Goal: to reveal and find out the mysteries of the world, to get closer to God and "His works".
