"OKTOBERFEST 2013", a registered mark for Romania, is an event organized from September 6th to 15th in Brasov, which offers 10 days of maximum fun to tourists, people from Brasov and national and international guests. As compared to the previous years, the festival will have many Bavarian surprises, loads of bear will flow and the history of the princess-bride will be again brought to the attention of the audience through its ritual.
The organizers have announced that a similar festival will also take place for the first time in Bucharest from October 3rd to 6th in the parking space of Anchor Plaza Mall.
Brief history
Many people ask why Oktoberfest is organized in September. According to a German law issued in 1539 it was stipulated that the beer should be produced between September 29th and April 23rd because the risk of fire was high during the summer season. Lacking the current modern storage conditions, the producers from those times would sell all the beer before producing a new one. It is said that a princess-bride named the festival "Oktoberfest" after having been organized for the first time during October 12th -17th 1810. In 1872 the tradition was changed because of the cold season and since then Oktoberfest has started around September 20th and ended on the first Sunday of October.
Thousands of visitors
The little Oktoberfest from Brasov has developed as compared to its first edition and the locations chosen for this event have become limited for the thousands of visitors searching for maximum fun and entertainment. We remind our readers that the first edition which was organized at the bottom of Tampa Hill in 2009 was organized by the German Economic Club, as a persistent desire of the Transylvanian Saxon community, and the little Oktoberfest of Brasov was a success that not even its organizers expected. They succeeded in bringing to Brasov a German tradition taken after the genuine Bavarian style: flows of bear, German music, brass band music, Bavarian food specialties, huge tent, game prizes, famous sponsors, the official opening of the tapping of the first keg by the Romanian and German authorities.
Absolute record
In 2012 the festival records surpassed all expectations:
- 125,000 glasses of bear were drunk (but who?s counting them anyway);
- 27,845 Bavarian sausages from Turingen, good for barbecue, were eaten;
- prizes were awarded to environment lovers (recycling of glasses);
- the winner of Miss Popularity (2010) was 64 years old;
- 215 persons worked at the 2012 Oktoberfest;
- the saddest moment was when the band announced the closing of the festival.
