Measurement of the Milk in Sirnea

In village Sirnea, commune Fundata, Brasov county, in a mountain area where the mountains` peaks look as if they reached the sky, a custom related to the sheep farming activity is celebrated. The occupation of most of the people here is sheep breeding, an ancient trade transmitted from father to son until present days. According to the old ritual, the shepherds do a lot of pastoral specific practical activities such as: building sheep farms, weaning lambs, sheep shearing and measurement of the milk to establish the quantity of cheese allocated to each animal owner.
Sheep farm custom
"For the sheep farm custom, the celebration of the Measurement of the Milk is an event in which tourists can also take part and find out about the lost world of the Romanian sheep farming. The event agenda that we have organized for the tourists includes traditional food, folk music, folk dance courses, daily life scenes and pastoral games. The custom "the Measurement of the Milk" starts with milking the animals and measuring the milk. We have also put an accent on the promotion of the local folk music and dance, so we invited on stage famous figures who offered a true parade of folk costumes. We are glad that tourists come in a growing number to attend this festival, willing to know more about old customs and traditions," said Mr. Marian Florin Patea, Mayor of Fundata.
Folk show
The agenda included: the folk groups ,,Sub Cetina Bradului" from Fundata, "Plaiurile Dumbravitei", "Poarta Dorului Bran", "Doinitorii Runcului" and "Junii Brasovului" from the Students` Culture House", the singers Ionela Bran, Nina Predescu and Irina Zoican. This event is organized with the support of the Local Council and the Town Hall of Fundata, but most of all with the support of the local people who cherish the true values of the village. The fact that they are keen on preserving their regional genuine traditions and customs and not inventing holidays which have nothing to do with the tradition of the villages in Bran is worth praising.
At high altitude
Tourists who want to come to these places can find accommodation in Fundata, which is situated at the highest altitude in Romania (1360 m) between the National Park Bucegi and the National Park Piatra Craiului. They can admire here breathtaking mountain landscapes, breath fresh air (as the milk measurement post situated in the area can prove it), meet hospitable people, customs and traditions unaltered by time, genuine ancient architecture, indulge in tasteful and healthy food, or recreate practising hiking, mountain bike in summer or winter sports in the cold season.
