Budila, a settlement dating back to the 13th century

Budila is located at only 18 km from the City of Brasov, a big industrial hub, and has a great economic, social and cultural impact on this area, too. It is a settlement dating back to the 13th century. The oldest document attesting its name has existed since 1211 when the domination of the Teutonic Knights over the grass lands of the Carpathian Mountains forced the local people move towards the sub-Carpathian hills, who then returned to the current settlement only in the 17th-18th centuries.
In Campia Barsei (Barsa Plain)
Because the lands here are predominantly flat, agriculture and livestock are and have always been the main occupation of the local people for centuries. Budila lies in the region underneath the Carpathian Curve Mountains and it is part of Barsa Plain. It has many natural benefits due to the presence of Buzau Mountains at only 10-12 km to the East of Budila. The flora is specific to the alpine and sub-alpine area and to temperate-continental climate regions. The fauna is not different from the fauna of the rest of the county, which in addition includes game animals. There is also a dendrological park in Budila.
Revival of traditions
"Considering how old this town is, keeping in mind its history, the traditions and customs of the Romanian, Hungarian and Romani people who have cohabited here for years, we wish to teach the new generation to pass on this heritage. This is why the children from the local Middle School, both from the Hungarian and Romanian sections, have carried out cultural projects while assisted by their teachers. Each ethnic group has presented its national costume, as well as dances and songs. The most important event of this year is the Day of Budila, an occasion for the local artists to go up stage, where the children are true ambassadors," said Mr. Irimia Marsavela, Mayor of Budila.
Promoting young talents
The Romanian and Hungarian children folk groups from the Middle School of Budila are made up of young talented people, passionate of collecting and making the best use of genuine folklore. These groups` goal is to train in time several generations of dancers, under the careful guidance of their teachers. Thanks to a wide choreographic repertoire and a high-class performance and appearance, the children enjoy a real success. They continuously express their desire to assert themselves as artists.
