The Legends of Barsa Region (Tara Barsei) in Hălchiu

Starting this May, the Metropolitan Agency Brasov has initiated the series of 15 events called "The Legends of Barsa Region", as follows: Rasnov (July 21st), Tarlungeni (July 28th),Vulcan (August 4th), Ghimbav town (August 11th), Harman (August 19th), Cristian (September 8th) and Halchiu (September 22nd).
The main purpose of the event "The Legends of Tara Barsei" is to promote Barsa Region, bringing customs and traditions which give life to these localities in the middle of the community, for locals and tourists.
Halchiu, in the time of the giants
"Halchiu is a town from Barsa Region, rich in history, traditions, customs, which still preserves legends from the time of the giants of whom it is said to have built the Fortress of Crizbav and Bran and between these fortressed fairies travelled by boat. The locals from Halchiu recall that a big lake existed in the past in Barsa Region, surrounded by woods. When the Saxons came, a man dug a break and drained the lake. They say this is how Barsa Region appeared. About the founding of Halchiu there is a legend from the time of the Teutonic Knights when Heltvin founded a new community called Hiltvinsdorf, which means, the village of Heltvin. We appreciate that these legends attract tourists and worth being known," said Mr. Ioan Garbacea, the Mayor of commune Halchiu.
Promotion events
On the occasion of the organization of the event "The Legends of Barsa Region" tourists are invited to take part in handcraft demonstrations which include pottery and doll making of ecological textiles, but also the preparation of special dishes following local recipes. During the event, traditional music folk groups from Barsa Region will perform on stage. The entire event will be animated by the presence of the artists who will dance and sing music specific to Barsa Region. The participants will have the opportunity to visit one of the most famous legends of Halchiu.
The Days of Halchiu
After "The Legends of Halchiu" on September 22nd, "The Days of Halchiu" are organized on September 23rd. This event is also organized aiming at making the best use of the local traditions and customs, to reward the best local householders who have the most beautiful animals and to present the Folk Group "Floare de Castan" from Halchiu. They have a rich repertoire of folk dances and songs specific to the local area.
