The town of Zarnesti was built on the old establishment of locality Zarnesti. The certification of the town in documents dates back in 1367. The locality Tohan, which is nowadays part of the town, was certified in documents in 1294, being one of the oldest locations from Romania which preserved an unchanged national background. Nowadays, the inhabitants of Zarnesti preserve both their cultural and historical heritage, and the natural heritage. For each of them there are customs and traditions which were passed on from one generation to another.
The Day of Zarnesti
The biggest event for the inhabitants of Zarnesti is considered to be ?Floare de Colţ? Folk Festival (Edelweiss Folk Festival), which is being organized on the occasion of town celebration.
?This year, the Town Hall and the Local Council of Zarnesti have organized the 33rd edition of the Edelweiss Festival. Thus, tradition was respected and the event was continued. We have tried hard to offer the locals and tourists an exceptional artistic programme, where special guests such as Cornelia and Lupu Rednic were invited. The show was great, even though it rained, because it gathered together a numerous audience and several folk ensembles, with a genuine repertoire specific to the region,? says the Mayor of Zarnesti town, Mr. Dorel Valeriu Bîrlădeanu.
Exceptional Show
Some of the guests were: Proconsul, The Marker, Petrică Matu Stoian, Traian Ilea, and vocalists from the County. Folk ensembles such as: Piatra Craiului from Zarnesti, Poiana Marului, Doruletu Ghimbav, Magura Codlea, Junii Zarnestiului, Craisorii Pietrii Craiului, Junii Mociului from Cluj, the folk group Floare de Colt were present as well. The festival was organized on the sports ground Torpedo Zarnesti and ended with fireworks.
