During June 28-29, Sanpetru town hall and the local council organized the 12th edition of Sanpetru?s Days Sânpetrului, occasioned by the celebration of Saint Peter, who gave the name of the village. The Airdrome "Iosif Silimon" hosted an air show, sporting contests and a display of the famous riders Junii and impressive folkloric program.
Romanian-German Traditions
As mayor Ion Rus stated, the traditional feast of Saints Peter and Paul is a splendid occasion to celebrate both Romanian and German local traditions. ?The inhabitants always knew to conserve their customs expressing significant facts of the community. The purpose of the event is the permanent promotion of the cultural tradition?, mayor stated.
Juni?s Parade
After the religious service officiated at the local church, the procession, opened by the brass band and Juni?s group, went to the Airdrome. The parade gathered on the commune?s streets all the inhabitants, eager to admire the flamboyant horses, splendid traditional clothes and impressive flags of the Juni. At the airdrome, the rustic riders settled in circle for the traditional military salute. The participants had than the chance to ride the quick-tempered horses within the airdrome area.
Folklore and Joy of Living
The entertaining program prepared by the organizers attracted all the local youths, who challenged in sporting force contests like ?the strongest man?. Many of them participated at the mini-ATV, mini-motorcycle and mini-football contests. Young and elders found a lot of fun in dragging the rope. Everybody spent a wonderful amusing day. The magnificent folkloric show, including the performances of both Romanian and German traditional dance bands, has been the major attraction of Sanpetru?s Days, a marvellous display of customs, clothes and joy of living.
