In Cuciulata village, Braşov County, people held a great celebration: two hundred years since the birth of Aron Pumnul, who is considered the most illustrious fellow villager. On this occasion, a series of events and memorial activities were organised in honour of Aron Pumnul, a great scholar of the country. One of these consisted in visiting the Village Museum, which holds an impressive museological collection, carefully collected by the late priest Alexandru Comșa, now curated by the priest’s widow, Mrs. Mărioara Comșa.
The souvenirs in the museum
The museum comprises several sections: The Archeology Section, with souvenirs and collections; The Celebrities’ Section, dedicated to the most important people of Cucuilata: scholar Aron Pumnul, actress Sonia Cluceru – distinguished artist, scientist George Buzdugan and others; The Household Objects’ Section and the Ethnographic Section, with the splendid traditional costumes of Cuciulata.
Unveiling the memorial plaque
The visit at the Village Museum was followed by a memorial feast in honour of Aron Pumnul, held by a group of priests at the “Saint Paraschiva” Church in Cuciulata. All the guests took part in the feast, including the children of the village, wearing the beautiful Cuciulata traditional costumes. Next, the celebration included an artistic show performed by the Cuciulata Secondary School. The guests then attended the unveiling of the memorial plaque, displayed on the house where Aron Pumnul was born and where he spent his childhood.
Double anniversary
86-year-old Reserve Colonel Vasile Strâmbu was the initiator of this event. ‘We took advantage of this occasion to also launch the book <> by Irie Rad, with a supplementation of its circulation due to the bicentenary of Aron Pumnul’s birth and the Centenary of the Great Union, an editorial project born under the supervision of ASTRA Association, with the support of Hoghiz Town Hall. I was happy that one of Aron Pumnul’s great-granddaughters, a 17-year-old girl, joined us; we even took a group photo together, a token for the years to come. People from all over the country, including from Chișinău and Cernăuți, gathered to honour the memory of Aron Pumnul together with the children of the village,’ declared Colonel Strâmbu.
