The local authorities of the commune have fulfilled all the necessary formalities for Vama Buzăului to be declared a “Tourist Resort of Local Interest”. Within the framework of this project, activities for the development/rehabilitation of the tourist routes in the area have already been commenced, and an interactive tourist map with hiking trails, bicycle routes, information points and tourist attractions has been published on the official website of the commune. Moreover, the official coat of arms of the commune of Vama Buzăului with all its significant elements has been recently approved.
The aurochs on the coat of arms
The Mayor of Vama Buzăului, Tiberiu Nicolae Chirilaş, says that “We have waited eight years for the new coat of arms, which has the following significance: the girdle suggests the fortification elements (“Festungs”) in the locality, the silver fir on a blue background alongside the green background symbolize the natural resources (mountain, vegetation, waters), and the crosses are symbols of the religious life of local communities and the sacrifices of those who fought in the area during World War I. The aurochs represents the aurochs nature reserve existing on the territory of the locality. The mural crown with a crenellated tower means that the locality has the rank of commune. More important, however, is the fact that we have submitted the documentation required for the commune to be declared tourist resort”.
Past and present
“Țara Buzaielor, also known as the depression of Întorsura Buzăului, is an old refuge and shelter area located in the heart of the Curvature Carpathians, which also includes Vama Buzăului. The surroundings were mentioned in old records dating back to the 15th century, more precisely to year 1449. It is known that Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave), the first author of Romanian unity, passed through this region. In order to mark this event, we have commissioned a bust of the Transylvanian Unifier of the Nation and placed it in front of the Gymnasium School in the centre of the commune, and we have organized the symposium entitled “De la Prima Unire - 1600 la Marea Unire 1918”, said the mayor.
