„Cavalerii Teutoni se întorc în Cetatea Feldioara”

Every year, in September, the commune of Feldioara, located in the county Braşov, hosts the biggest festival with knights and ladies entitled „Cavalerii Teutoni se întorc în Cetatea Feldioara” (Teutonic Knights are back to Feldioara Fortress). The festival takes place in the fortress, the gates of which are open to all lovers of medieval festivals. Visitors can witness scenes from the ancient history of Feldiora, from the time of the Teutonic Knights. Everything is a show, from the parade of horses and horsemen to the demonstrations of medieval fights. Armours are displayed and visitors can learn how to fight with medieval weaponry.

The Mayor of Feldioara, Sorin Taus, says that “Feldioara has entered the circuit of cities organizing Turnirul Cavalerilor (Knights Jousting), a real medieval festival. The show is impressive, the knights and princesses look straight out of medieval tales, the fighting demonstrations and stalls exhibiting handicraft objects take us back to old times, the whole community is in a bustle, and there is a special medieval atmosphere. The curios may participate in interactive workshops to learn how to handle a sword, shoot a bow, throw a spear, and hold a shield. It looks like the Teutonic knights are back to the Fortress.”

Exhibitions in the city
The inhabitants of the neighbouring areas and tourists can see and participate in various performances: parade with horses, knights and princesses, horse demonstrations, medieval music concert, art demonstrations and medieval fights, recitals, shows staged by students from Liceul Teoretic „Petru Rareş” in Feldioara, folk songs, and fireworks. The gates of Feldioara Fortress are open and visitors have access to the exhibitions hosted by the fortress - the permanent exhibition entitled „Mărturii arheologice şi Mărturii de locuire şi conlocuire în Feldioara” (Archaeological Relics and Evidence of Life and Cohabitation in Feldioara”) and the temporary exhibition / „Armindenii - Sărbătoare şi tradiţie (Armindenii - Feast Day and Tradition”).
Continuation of the project

The Festival „Cavalerii Teutoni se întorc în Cetatea Feldioara” has already reached its 8th edition, and is part of the Strategy and Programme for the Promotion and Development of Traditions and Tourism developed by the Mayoralty, and financed over the past years from European funds. This year the Festival is financed by the Mayoralty.
