420,000 tourists at Cetatea Râșnov

Over the ten years since the town hall took over the administration of the monument, Cetatea Medievală Râșnov (Râșnov Medieval Fortress), located in the County of Brașov, has become one of the main tourist attractions in the entire county, and a major national attraction. Only in the last year 420,000 tourists have crossed the threshold of this tourist site. The number of visitors has been increasing from year to year due to the tourist attractions in the area, but also due to the events organized in the Medieval Fortress.

Festivalul Dacic Comidava (“Comidava” Dacian Festival)

During the period August 25-26, 2018, Cetatea Râșnov hosted the 3rd edition of Festivalul Dacic Comidava, an event that managed to bring together, as always, prestigious historical scene reconstitution groups eager to show the public authentic samples of the life in a military camp. The audience had the opportunity to renew acquaintance with the Dacians, the Sarmatians and the Romans who were fighting 1900 years ago to occupy these places. Tourists participated in handicraft workshops, sampled ancient gastronomy, and witnessed gladiator battles and battle scenes from medieval times.

In the Garden of the Medieval Fortress

The gardens of the Medieval Fortress served as a venue for the historical scene reconstitution groups. Each group had its own tent over which the customized flag has been erected. The groups also exhibited equipment items and documentary material on the history of the unit, as well as a record of their participation in historical scene reconstitution events. Sociable and amiable, the “Sunday soldiers” mingled with and entertained the audience presenting the old military dress and telling stories about the campaigns in which they have participated throughout history.

Romantic legends

The Mayor of Râșnov, Liviu Cătălin Butnariu, declared that “The town of Râșnov is a tourist resort of national interest, and it is our duty to bring to the forefront the real history and multicultural nature of these places and, why not, to offer our guests something else: a special story and romantic legends with knights and princesses that tourists can find in the medieval fortress, along with the music of those times. Inspired by the old coat of arms of Râşnov-Rosenau, we want to turn our town into the Rose of national tourism.”
