Brasov city announced its candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture ? in 2021. In this context, the cultural figures from Brasov got together in order to carry out this great project. They all unanimously thought that getting such a title represents a once in a lifetime opportunity, that they cannot imagine missing it. Brasov deserves it!
Why BrasovĂ
Brasov is the city where its citizens are actually living, not just inhabiting. It is the city seen by the citizens as the place assuming and respecting its history, but also embracing the future and the progress. It aims at a diverse cultural offer and, at the same time, a dynamic cultural life that equally meets the expectations of inhabitants and those of tourists/visitors. It overcame all the historical difficulties, continuously regenerating and reinventing itself through culture. It is a ?living? city where creativity is essential, a city that wishes to be linked to contemporaneity, but also respects and exploits its multicultural legacy. Brasov is a city which can regenerate and reinvente itself at the same time as the young people inhabiting it.
Regeneration through Culture
"The urban regeneration through culture can, and must represent the new cultural proliferation points in the neighbourhoods of the city, new festivals and community events in the neighbourhoods, for more educated and better informed citizens, who actively take part in the city`s public life, regardless of their personal and cultural background. The future citizens of Brasov must know the history and the past of the city they inhabit in, must take pride in contributing to the new local identity by participating in cultural and contemporary creation activities, and generating new ones to be added to the primary identity", said Mr. Valer Rus, PhD., Manager of the Casa Muresenilor Museum.
Reference Points
The path towards the title of European Capital of Culture is defined by the values assumed at the community level. These values are now already reference points within the activities taking place in Brasov: Participation, Interculturality, Diversity, Non-discrimination, Tolerance, Transparency, European Dimension, Quality, Responsibility, Inclusion, Opening, Tradition, and Innovation. In order to accomplish this great project, the citizens of Brasov turned themselves in supporters of Brasov candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2021.
