Start of the airport construction

On April 26th 2013, the Minister Delegate for Energy, Mr. Constantin Nita accompanied by the Chairman of the County Council (CJ) Mr. Aristotel Cancescu, the Vice-President of CJ, Mr. Mihai Pascu, the Mayor of Brasov Municipality, Mr. George Scripcaru, parliamentarians of Brasov, Mayors and representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Brasov made a working visit on the occasion of the beginning of works at the airport Brasov - Ghimbav. The accomplishment of this goal on the administrative territory of Ghimbav town puts Brasov on the map of great tourist landmarks, contributes to the development of the area and to the increase of the number of tourists.
A dream comes true
"Today a dream has come true. Now, after 20 years from laying the foundation for the construction of an airport in Brasov, the works at the airport have begun. The investment will bring Brasov to the foreground of the economic life of Transylvania, which will contribute to bringing up more strong points for Brasov to become a regional capital. In 2015, we will have a modern airport here," said the Minister Delegate for Energy, Mr. Constantin Nita. The Mayor of Brasov Municipality, Mr. George Scripcaru, said that the construction of the airport is carried out within the framework of the regionalization of Romania and he pointed out that the period of 2014-2020 would attract projects that would create new jobs, investments and business people.
Contribution of the County of Brasov
"Here we are, today, proving undoubtedly that words materialized into facts. It is an investment made through our own efforts. We managed to attract into the project the Town Hall of Brasov and experienced companies among which we mention Vectra, who started making the design and will execute the construction of the airport, and ROMAT, who will finance all the flight equipment of the airport (12 million euros)" and provide skilled personnel," said the President of CJ Brasov, Mr. Aristotel Cancescu. "We have had detailed discussions with investors from USA, Israel, Italy, Germany, France, Middle East countries and China. Our efforts have been appreciated by the foreign investors," said the Vice-President of CJ Brasov, Mr. Mihai Pascu.
Ghimbav, in the centre of attention
"We have collaborated with local and national authorities. Through the construction of the airport we have managed together to bring Ghimbav to the centre of attention. We have been open to collaboration, we have proved transparency and we have reached a performance never-before-seen so that our children could take the planes from this airport," said the Mayor of Ghimbav town, Mr. Toma Dorel. Mr. Marcel Butuza from Vectra company that will execute the construction of the airfield, said: "The airstrip will have 2.820 meters length and 45 meters width, with a cost of 12.7 million Euro plus VAT, and will enable landing of Boeing 737 and Airbus 320 middle courier aircrafts."
